Mirna Hirschl

Mirna Hirschl grew upin Croatia during World War II and lived through the communism that followed. She studied architecture at the University of Zagreb, where she developed a lifelong love of the arts. Later, she and her husband moved to the United States and settled in New York, where she earned both a BS and MS in computer science from SUNY Binghamton. After retiring, she relocated to Belmont, CA. Poetry came to her late in life: she began by writing a memoir, but the activity soon evolved into writing poetry—a passion she has pursued for the past 13 years. She has published two collections of poetry: How Memories Insist (2022) and Slender Reeds (2024). The Italian translation of the latter is now being published. Currently, she is engaged in translating a book on children’s psychology from Serbian to English, and hopes to resume writing her memoir. She enjoys reading, participating in local poetry circles, attending literature clubs, and studying foreign languages. On a beautiful day she can be found walking in nature, contemplating its beauty, or visiting Filoli Gardens in search of wild cyclamen.
